Poll #1573376 Favorite ELIZABETH GASKELL Adaptation

What is your favorite recent BBC adaptation of an Elizabeth Gaskell novel?

"Wives and Daughters" (1999)
"North and South" (2004)
"Cranford" (2007)
"Return to Cranford" (2009)

Why is there no option for "All of the above"! I can't choose. Cranford is probably the best done in terms of ensemble casting, but N&S has sentimental value for me. Return to Cranford was MEH, though.
the night is a very dark time for me: peter steeleolivia_ramirez on June 2nd, 2010 05:00 pm (UTC)
North and South ranks highest on my list, but I liked them all.

I love them all, but "Wives and Daughters" remains my favorite.

I cannot chose anything other than North & South, I love it too much!

Has to be North and South. Mr. Thornton is pretty much the best thing ever.

Thornton. Honestly, need I say more?

My favorite will always be "Wives and Daughters". While "North and South" has good things about it, "Wives and Daughters" is such a beautiful production from beginning to end.

How about, "Look back at me?" Or, "You're coming home with me?" Or, "I do not wish to possess you I wish to marry you because I love you!"

I voted "North and South" but I LOVE Anthony Howell in "Wives and Daughters". It's conflicting.

Wives & Daughters is my fave period drama, not just of the Gaskell ones! North & South is... well, everyone who's seen North & South knows how awesome it is! Cranford was divine! My least fave of those is the Cranford sequel since it just didn't capture the magic of the first one.

North and South. A million times yes.

hahaha N&S will always be #1.

Cranford is a close second for my all-time fave period drama (not just of Gaskell, as someone else mentioned) - that cast is golden!

W&D is 3rd only because it's been forever since I've seen it (and I don't remember it so well)

And don't even get me started on return to cranford. Though Jem Hearne is hot.

N&S is probably my favorite period drama adaptation. Period.

I only chose N&S because it's the only one I've seen. That, and I LOVE IT. Wives and Daughters is sitting on my counter, waiting for when I have an entire day free to watch it. I loved the book.

I had to go with Wives and Daughters, it's the only one I really enjoyed (I loved the book of North & South but the BBC adaptation just fell flat for me).

I think I enjoy Cranford the most, although North and South is awesome as well. I didn't really get anything out of Wives and Daughters, even though it was very well written and acted. And Return to Cranford was a nightmare, honestly. I did not like it one bit.

North and South without a doubt.
